I’ve always believed we function best to help others when we first take care of ourselves. I’d like to discuss my self-care routine as I spend this week getting myself ready for my trip to Nepal for charity work. It will be an adventure. I’m not sure how much sleep I will get or how comfortable the living conditions will be, so it is important that I am feeling strong and at 100%.
Self care before travel
Get Enough Sleep
My body is happiest when I get 8 hours of sleep. I can function on 6 hours, but over time I get worn down. I will make an effort to get my full 8 hours for a few days before I travel. My 26 hour travel time to Nepal is going to eat into my sleep bank! Aaaaah!
Eat lots of greens
Lately, I’ve been so busy I haven’t had time to prepare many meals. During times when my life is crazy, I feel it’s hardest to keep my diet healthy. During these busy times, it’s even more important to get in my greens so I make a smoothie in the morning with at least 2 large handfuls of spinach or kale, a cup of fruit, a tablespoon of almond butter and a scoop of vanilla protein powder.
Take Multivitamins
This is something I’ve recently started when I realized age is not on my side! I have been catching viruses very easily and need all the help I can get to stay healthy. It is hard to get all of our vitamins and minerals from food on a daily basis, so I’ve started daily supplements. I’ll report back and let you know how it’s working for me.
Don’t wait until the last minute
I packed 3 days early for my trip! When you have a lot of to-do items, make a list and schedule a few a day so you’re not rushing around at the last minute. I had many to-dos to get ready for my trip with visas, supplies I need while there, coordinating my family’s stuff while I’m gone, etc. I was so happy when I realized days before my trip that I’m ready! Visit my blog post for more tips on how to pack only carry-on luggage for your next vacation.
Drink lots of water
Most of you know by now that my charity trip to Nepal is to help bring clean water solutions to impoverished villages after their monsoon season. We will be distributing hundreds of water filters, each one lasting up to 10 years and making up to 1 million gallons of water drinkable! And since water is on my mind, I partnered up with DASANI® Sparkling to show you their latest product.
They come in a variety of flavors including black cherry, tropical pineapple, and white peach to name just a few. I grabbed some DASANI® Sparkling at Kroger via my local Ralph’s store and I love it! My favorite is the berry flavor.
We need all the water we can get on a daily basis, but especially before a long flight that will dehydrate the body. In addition to regular water, I’m drinking lots of this delicious sparkling water to get extra hydration before my adventure in Nepal.
And guess what? DASANI® Sparkling wants to join you on your next adventure. With so many flavors to choose from, DASANI® Sparkling has a flavor for every adventure you take! Speaking of adventure, October 1st through November 15th, you can enter for a chance to WIN an experiential trip to Albuquerque, NM for the 2019 Albuquerque International Hot Air Balloon Festival! Get outside and move your body
I’m spending as much time outdoors in the fresh air as I can, getting in my vitamin D and exercise!
Spend quality time with those you love
Lots of time hanging out with my boys. I need all the time I can get with them before I leave them for 2 weeks!
With this extra self care focus, I think I’m ready for my trip. What do YOU do for self-care when you need to give yourself some extra love?
Oh, I can’t forget to mention the whitening toothpaste that I won’t travel without! It has a patent that seals your teeth for 24 hours to prevent stains from setting into our teeth’s pores! Visit my post on why I love it.

Wow this looks delicious! I haven’t seen this in the store yet!
Staying hydrated before and during travel is so important, especially if you’re going on a long road trip or flight!
A great list for travel prep! So many people forget to hydrate well beforehand. A great reminder!
These are SUPER important tips both BEFORE travel and AFTER!!!
I second you on this – drink more water and embrace the moment. I’m curious to try the white peach – sounds so refreshing and perfect for fall err….summer weather.
