I am loving this poke dish. It’s the best healthy spicy ahi salad to please a crowd. The perfect appetizer to bring to a pot luck or for when you’re entertaining guests at your home this summer!
I shared a post on Ahi Sushi cups a while back with a recipe to make your own sauce. After making this dish several times with store purchased spicy ahi poke, I noticed the sauce in the recipe is unnecessary when we use store bought spicy tuna poke! The seasonings from the tuna lightly coat the other ingredients just enough to taste, leaving the dish light and fresh.
Most people want to taste the cucumber and avocado on its own anyway. Sprinkle toasted seaweed at the end and some sesame seeds, and you’re done!
I love the different options of serving this dish, depending on the occasion. More on that soon.
The best healthy spicy ahi salad
Spicy tuna poke, cucumber, avocado, and toasted seaweed are the only ingredients you need.
Chop the cucumber into quarters or halves. If you use Persian cucumbers, you don’t even need to peel them.
Cut avocado into cubes.
I like to use double the amount of cucumbers as the tuna to make it healthier. Also, tuna is expensive. This combination allows me to enjoy the taste of spicy ahi without it being overpowering.
I get my store bought poke at Bristol Farms grocery. I don’t think it has mayonnaise in it which makes it Whole30 friendly too!
You can find prepared poke at most grocery stores. The sauce should be comparable (soy sauce, sesame oil, scallions, sesame seeds).
3 ways to serve
Family Style
Put all into a bowl and serve with a dish of rice for people to help themselves
Ahi cups
To present the tuna with a more refined look, make “cups” on a bed of rice.
Standing room only
Serve in cups so people can enjoy while standing. Perfect for a happy hour or mixer type of event! I’m thinking of doing these for my open house summer kick off I’m hosting this week at my house. I’ll let you know how it goes!

I purchase my poke from a grocery called Bristol Farms. Check your grocery store for pre made poke. Otherwise, visit my Ahi Sushi Cups recipe which details how to make sauce.
